Tea | Masala Chai | Chai Latte

 
 
 

 

Ingredients:

For Masala Chai

Makes 2 cups

1/4th cinnamon stick

6-8 black peppercorns

2-4 whole cloves

1/2 inch ginger

6-8 green cardamom pods

2 cups water

2-3 tbsp loose tea

2 tbsp sugar

3/4 cup milk

For Chai concentrate

Makes 4 cups

1 cinnamon stick

8-10 green cardamom pods

1 inch ginger

3-4 tbsp loose tea

4 tbsp sugar

 

Method:

For Masala Chai:

  1. Boil water along with ginger and other spices. Use a mortar & pestle to pound the spices and the ginger. You can also grate the ginger and ground the spices.

  2. Add tea and boil for 3-5 minutes before adding your choice of sweetener (sugar/honey/agave).

  3. Boil for a minute and add the milk. Bring the milk to a rolling boil and let that boil for another 5-8 minutes before serving.

  4. Strain the tea using a fine mesh strainer and serve.

 

For Chai concentrate:

  1. Boil water along with ginger and other spices. Use a mortar & pestle to pound the spices and the ginger. You can also grate the ginger and ground the spices.

  2. Add tea and boil for 3-5 minutes before adding your choice of sweetener (sugar/honey/agave).

  3. Boil for a minute and strain to get the chai concentrate.

 

You can make chai lattes/iced chai lattes with the chai concentrate. Refer the video.
